Coal Times

THE BIG QUESTION FOR THIS MINEQUEST:
How dependent is your life on coal?

How many times in your life have you thought about coal? You mean it's not a common topic at your lunch table or the first thing you mention to friends in the morning? If your mother or father works at a coal mine in Wyoming, you will know more about coal and how it affects your life. Whether you've thought about it much or not, the results of coal are all around you. It is the raw material needed to make many products that are used not only in the United States but in countries all over the world. Coal provides us with thousands of products we use every day. Life, as we know it, would not be possible without coal and its by-products. In this Minequest, you will gather information about coal from its beginnings to its many roles in your life. Along the way in your learning journey, you will come to understand just how dependent our quality of life is on coal and then you will make some challenging decisions about this resource.

Task#1: But first, take five minutes and write down everything you already know about Wyoming coal. Keep your list, as you'll need to look at it again at the end of this Minequest.
