Keeping The BIG Question in Mind:
How dependent is your life on coal?

Your Minequest Team Plan
Task #3: When each of you has a set of answers to the questions for your field, come back into your group, discuss the information you found, and develop one complete group answer to each of the questions. Try to develop your answer well enough that others who know little about coal will learn enough from your answers to be able to explain it to their friends. As a team, create a product which will communicate to the rest of the class the most important information you have gathered.
TEAMWORK TIP Show that you recognize and value the contributions of teammates by encouraging everyone to offer ideas, waiting until a teammate is finished speaking before offering your own comments, and avoiding side conversations with a friend. |
PRESENTATION TIP You can’t share everything you've learned, so focus on the big ideas and find a way to make them interesting. |
Follow these steps to create your product.
1) Agree on what to share. Here's a strategy to try.
Each member of the original group selects and writes a list of the three most important ideas from the group's answers. Members should be ready to explain why they think their ideas are the most important to share with the other students in the class. As a group, combine your lists and identify which ideas are listed the most often. Those will be shared with the class. If you have a tie, explain your positions and decide as a group which idea(s) will be included.
2) Once you have your top ideas, consider how you can best communicate and display this information. Could a brochure, poster, power point presentation, or game effectively tell your story? Think of other ideas for a product that would suit your information better. How can you make your information interesting enough that people will want to listen or learn from your display?
Task #5: Now that you have created your product to share your findings, read the paper on which you recorded what you knew about coal BEFORE you began this minequest. Take five minutes and write what you know NOW about coal. Compare your information. Using a scale of 1 – 10 with ten being the best rating, rate yourself on how much you learned, write it at the top of your paper, and circle it.
