Power Connections |
The Big Question for this Minequest:
What are the connections among the people, places, and processes of the systems that provide the energy to power our world?
Ah, the USA! It has so much to offer within its endless horizons, high lands and low lands. Surely, it’s nature at its best. Working in student teams, your task will be to discover the richness of our country’s natural resources and their use in creating energy. You’ll discover that energy development is made up of complex systems, where many components depend on and affect other components. The challenge in this learning journey will be to sort through systems and sift out connections.

Just like the systems you will be researching, working together as a team is complex. Sharing the responsibility for getting the work done requires getting organized. Not only your own team is depending on you to do your share. Every team in your class needs every other team to bring its own piece of the puzzle to the table.
Task #1: As a team, select a team leader to organize and direct your research. The best leader is someone who will be willing to listen to others and be listened to by others.
Task #2: As a team, preview the Mining, Processing and Product pages of this Minequest using the links below. Looking ahead to the tasks you will be completing will help you plan your research. When you have looked ahead, meet back here to continue getting organized.
Task #3: With your teammates, brainstorm strategies for taking notes at your assigned web pages. From your notes you will have to share the discoveries you make about your piece of the energy puzzle with classmates. Consider how organizing your notes will make you better prepared to share information with your classmates.
TECH TIP: Jot down web page links or, if you are allowed to do so, add bookmarks to your menu so that you can easily return to pages again to answer questions or clarify information later in your journey.
