Teacher Safety tour |
Keeping the big question in mind ...
What do I need to do to make Minequesting in my classroom a smooth operation and the best use of instructional time?
Now you are viewing the Mining Information page. Here your students will begin their Internet research in earnest. Depending on the length and complexity of the Minequest, students will find a varying number of links to websites providing information to prepare them to continue their journey. If the quest requires teamwork, they may be directed to organize a teamwork strategy at this point. You may want to remind them to apply any particular research skills you have been studying in class. If you have special requirements or expectations regarding their research strategies, remind them before they dig into the Mining Information Page. Some Minequests include Research Tips. Check for them as you preview the Minequest you choose to use.
Here are two web links to more safety information. Use them just as your students will use links to information in their Minequests.

Mining for Support Information …
• A Standards Links Summary is provided to help you match Minequests to standards. Tech standard links are based on the National Technology Standards and are the same for each Minequest. Content standards reference Wyoming State Standards. The Minequest Project is committed to “truth in advertising.” The links listed in the Summary are predictions. Until student work generated from Minequests is completed and analyzed, these links are not confirmed. Now why can’t textbook publishers be that honest!. (Here’s one more way you can improve the quality of your webquesting. Watch for opportunities to share your student work and participate in revising webquests tailored to your needs here at minequest.org
Check out the Standards Link Summary using this link, which will automatically download them as pdf files on your desktop.
• Each Minequest has a downloadable task summary document associated with it. After you preview a Minequest on-line, you will want to review this task summary prior to assigning a Minequest. You may decide to add or delete some tasks or you may decide whether the work is to be done individually or within teams. By adjusting the tasks required, you can customize the length and focus. The Task Summary documents are provided in pdf format for the most universal accessibility and Word format to allow you to customize the list with any revisions you may make.
• Some Minequests may have an additional document with supplementary support information for the teacher. Many of the Minequests currently posted were designed by Wyoming teachers. Solution Designs Ink may have revised drafts submitted by our colleagues in order to fit the Minequest format. The original documents or supplements authored by these teachers are provided for your reference and may offer alternative approaches to the topic. These documents are in pdf format and accessible from the Teacher Minequest Gateway.
• Some Minequests require the use of student handouts. Links to download these pdf files are found at the point in the Minequest where they are needed. Always preview the quest before assigning students to begin so that you become familiar with any of the handouts that may be required. Students are always directed to either print the handout using the link provided or to obtain a copy from the teacher or team leader. If you do not allow student to print hardcopies of documents from their workstations, you will need to have copies available in class as they work. Clarify your expectations about printing handouts before you begin the Minequest to avoid confusion during the quest.
